Covid-19 and the Planning system

The planning system continues to operate during the current emergency. While most Council planners are working online from home, there is a skeleton staff working within Council buildings, accepting and validating applications which are being lodged by post or at drop off points.

The time for the public to comment on these applications has been extended out beyond the lockdown and so Decisions cannot be made until that period is over. Appeals continue to be made and decided upon.

While the planning system is largely electronic at this stage, the anomaly remains that applications have to be lodged in hard copy. This has been examined since 2016 but is still not resolved.
